Origanum majorana
HERB-MARJORAM-SWEET is a rich, sweet tasting herb that is used exchange with oregano. It has tender leaves & stems, grows well just about anywhere, & is a great kitchen windowsill garden choice. Sweet marjoram could be described as mild oregano. Bushy & lush, you can harvest snips throughout the growing season & trim it all at the end of the season to dry for later use. A fast-growing tender perennial, it is grown as an annual in most parts of the country. Aroma is similar to oregano but sweeter. Dense plant, medicinal, calming & soothing. Used in aromatherapy preparations.
Marjoram seeds can be sown directly into the soil at the beginning of spring. Lightly cover with soil and pat gently to cover. Water only when dry and feed twice during the growing season. At the end of the season, cut back the leaves and cover the area with mulch to protect the roots from the cold winter.
